Nigerian businesswoman, Gladys Akibhor, has shared harrowing details of the physical, emotional, and verbal abuse she claims to have endured at the hands of her ex-husband. Her story, shared on Facebook on Thursday, November 13, 2025, reveals a marriage marked by fear, pain, and shocking treatment.
Gladys said the alleged abuse started shortly after their wedding and escalated within the first year. According to her posts, her ex-husband would reportedly slap, beat, and insult her over minor issues.
One particularly disturbing incident happened in 2015 when she accidentally spilled hot noodles on herself. Instead of offering help, Gladys says he beat her for staining the wall with the food. She recounted the moment in detail:
“In May 2015, one evening my ex came back from work, and we decided to eat noodles before bed. As I carried the noodles to the dining table, I missed my step because our two-bedroom apartment had a step from the kitchen to the dining area. Hot noodles poured on my legs, and I screamed in pain.
The next thing my ex did was slap me and shout, asking if I couldn’t see. He went straight to the kitchen, grabbed a wet cloth, and started cleaning the wall while yelling at me for dirtying it. That day, I realized he valued material things more than human life. That incident marked the beginning of fear and carefulness in my marriage.”
Gladys went on to describe the ongoing emotional and verbal abuse, saying she was “eating insults like breakfast” throughout the marriage. She also recounted another shocking episode during her first Christmas in his village:
“I helped his elder brother, who had an accident, by nursing his wounds. After coming back to the house, I was met with a heavy slap. When I asked why, he said: ‘So I carried you to the village to do nurse work? Helping your elder brother is a crime?’ Behind all his smiles were untold stories I am yet to unfold.”
Gladys’s posts paint a vivid picture of a marriage dominated by fear and control, and her story has resonated widely on social media, sparking conversations about domestic abuse and the importance of speaking out.
