CAF Fines Egypt $5,000 for Media Breach at AFCON 2025 - Gist Cent

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined the Egypt national football team $5,000 for failing to fulfil its post-match media obligations following their opening match against Zimbabwe at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

In a statement issued by CAF, the governing body said the fine was imposed after Egyptian players and members of the technical crew bypassed mandatory press duties in the mixed zone following the final whistle, walking past journalists without granting interviews. 

According to Soccer24, CAF described the action as a breach of competition regulations, which require teams to make players and officials available to the media after matches in order to promote transparency and engagement in the tournament. 

Alongside the financial penalty, CAF has issued a stern warning to Egypt, cautioning that further breaches of media protocols would attract harsher sanctions. The governing body specifically referenced Egypt’s Matchday Two fixture against South Africa, stressing that compliance with media responsibilities would be closely monitored.

Egypt are scheduled to face South Africa later, with attention now focused not only on their performance on the pitch but also on their adherence to AFCON regulations.
