Ebonyi Gov, Dave Umahi pleads for forgiveness - Gist Cent

Ebonyi State Governor, Dave Umahi, has made a public plea to the people of the state to forgive him for the shortcomings of his government as his administration winds down. In a speech delivered on Monday to commemorate the 2023 Workers’ Day, the governor admitted that he may have offended some citizens while carrying out his duties over the past eight years.

Umahi also beseeched the people to extend their support to the incoming governor-elect, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, emphasizing that Nwifuru, a former Speaker, would continue from where he stopped. He pleaded with the people to give Nwifuru the time and peace to settle down and do his work.

“In less than four weeks now, we shall have a new government in place. The new governor-elect Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru is a man who has been around and will continue the duty of governance from where we shall stop. I plead with you to give him peace and time to settle down," Umahi said.

Umahi expressed his gratitude to the workers of the state for their partnership, love, prayers and cooperation throughout his tenure in office. He also admitted to stepping on toes and offending some people while discharging his duty, stating that it was never intentional, but for the good of the people of the state. He begged those who feel offended to forgive him.

“As I bow out, I have forgiven all those who thought they offended me. May God bless our state, our workers and our people,” he concluded.

It is noteworthy that President Muhammadu Buhari made a similar plea to Nigerians a week earlier, asking for forgiveness for his inability to meet their expectations. The plea comes less than 29 days to the end of Umahi's administration.
