Google to offer AI-generated answers in search results - Gist Cent

Google said it's going to use smart technology to give answers to questions people ask online in the US. This is a big change for Google's search engine, the biggest in 25 years.

The CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai, talked about this new feature at an event in California on May 14th. Instead of just showing a bunch of links when you search for something, Google will first show a short summary that's made by a computer program called AI.

This AI summary will give a quick idea of what the internet says about your question and also give links to where it found the information.

The head of Google Search, Liz Reid, said you can ask Google anything you want, and it will do the work for you, from finding information to helping with planning.

Google is making this change because it's feeling pressure from other smart search engines like Perplexity. Also, there are rumors that OpenAI, the company behind me, is making its own smart search tool.

Other apps like Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp are also using smart technology to answer questions from the internet, without using Google.

This change will happen first in the US and then in other countries, so eventually, over a billion people will be able to use it.
