Breaking News: Delta State Assembly Suspends Member for Gross Misconduct

The Delta State House of Assembly has decided to suspend one of its members, Matthew Omonade, who represents Ughelli North 1 State Constituency, because of serious misbehavior.

The Speaker of the assembly, Dennis Guwor, made this announcement during a meeting in Asaba on Tuesday, May 14, 2024.

The suspension came after a quick decision by the Majority Leader, Emeka Nwaobi. Guwor said Omonade would not be allowed to participate in the assembly's activities for 14 days.

According to the rules of the House of Assembly and its standing orders, Omonade has to leave all government things he has, including his official car. He was escorted out of the meeting by the Sergeant-at-Arms.

To look into what happened, the speaker formed a group led by the Deputy Speaker, Arthur Akpowowo. This committee will check what Omonade did wrong and report back within two weeks. Other members of the committee include the Chief Whip, Perkins Umukoro, Emeka Asemuta, and Mrs. Marilyn Okowa-Daramola.
